ARTROM Gallery is pleased to present a selected work from Dale O'Dell's 'Woodland Series'. O'Dell is an artist with vast photographic experience and an intriguing balance between traditional analog techniques and the new digital potentials.
Inspiration is the word that comes to mind when we think of Dale O'Dell and the work he creates. Inspiration in the sense of an artist being possessed by a creative spirit, overtaken by a vision and driven to create. You can almost feel this force in what Dale sees, senses and reacts to when he is in those marvelous forests of the Northern California Sequoias, taking photos of what will become part of the surrealistic environments that he brings into being in his 'Woodland Series'.
Some might simply call his work imaginative but others recognize it as much more, it is a highly developed ability to create and bring into being that which is 'beyond', mixed and blended with that which 'is', giving birth to situations within landscapes that don't exist but that O'Dell admits he would like to visit.
Dale says "My photo-digital surreal landscapes exist outside of the laws of physics, logic and normalcy."
O'Dell's works first touch the viewer through the beauty inherent in the magnificient trees, the largest in the world, but with a closer examination something starts to feel slightly amiss, slightly peculiar, at times even bizarre. Odd proportions and small mysterious elements begin to reveal themselves and add a dimension previously unseen. There is a process of discovery in these pieces.
