Rome, Italy - Cheryl Lowrey, a South African Canadian living in Rome, Italy, will be exhibiting oils on canvas at a group art show hosted by the South African embassy in Rome and the Galleria degli Zingari. The exhibition runs from the 5th to 23rd December 2011.
Cheryl says, “This past month I've been painting in a new direction and, by chance, was offered this opportunity to show my work at Galleria degli Zingari. Perfect timing! In this new direction I’m trying to evoke the sense of a presence that has just left the room and is about to return. Out of this exploration is growing another - that of glimpses into someone else's personal space, like passing a slightly open door and seeing a woman, oblivious to observation, putting on lipstick at a mirror. There will be examples of both these directions at the show.”
Besides painting in oils on canvas, Cheryl also works in the Brushes app. on iPad. Of ‘painting’ on iPad Cheryl says, “The immediacy of the medium is very attractive. It’s like painting with my mind. What I see is what I get. And thanks to the backlit screen it’s possible to paint in the dark.” Whether painting on canvas with rags dipped into oils or finger painting on the screen of an iPad, it's colour and radiance that Cheryl responds to. The human form, landscapes, still life, interiors suffused with an air of intrigue all inspire her to paint.
