Vlatko Ceric
digital artist/ Croatia

Vlatko Ceric's work belongs to computer generated abstract art, or more specifically to algorithmic art where images are generated using algorithms, i.e. precise procedures coded in some programming language. An algorithm contains rules written in mathematical and computational form that describes how an image will look like and how it is to be generated.

He is creating his own software that transforms his ideas into images. For that purpose he has developed an abstract visual grammar based on using of either elementary geometrical objects (like lines, squares or triangles) integrated into diverse spatial arrangements, lines that curves under the influence of mathematical “force”, or continuous areas formed by different algorithms.

Ceric believes that computer art has to find its own character and form, rather than try to copy traditional art styles. In his work he looks for his own content and style through extensive experimenting with form and manipulation of colours, and for that purpose he uses the computer as a powerful tool and a partner in the creative process.

He enjoys the diversity of both form and technique. So in his visual research he experiments with a wide range of different structures. He uses various techniques like computer graphics, digitally manipulated photographs, animation and sculpture. In computer graphics he uses both modern techniques like digital print as well as traditional ones like serigraphy.

Gallery Comment : Croation artist Vlatko Ceric has jumped headfirst into computer generation of images and is exploring the new worlds that are possible with the media. From the self-created programs he uses to elaborate the image, to the selection process of determining which will finally arrive at becoming a unique archival print.
