painter / UK

Painting is a quest into the self; it is a search to explore and understand the surreal, both banal and inspiring, realities of our everyday lives. The images we produce and hang on our walls define us, our passions, our questions and our reflections upon the times we live in.
Consequently the art I produce comes not from the appreciation of still life or the complexities available through the focus on an individual portait but rather from within my own mind. I soak up images from newspa ‚pers and magazines and combine them with the imagery created by written articles. then attempt to regurgatate them onto canvas under a common theme.
Most often the focus of my work is the human form and my own personal struggle to undertstand the dilemas of human nature; the consequences that are borne out of love, hate, conquest, politics et cetera. The list can be endless. Influencing my art at present is the notion of mankinds loss of identity within the framework of 21st century capitalism where gadets and consumption have started to starve individual identity and freedom of thought. The question which is unanswerable is whether mankind is freer now or shackled to the systems weve created? Subsequently the human being for me is a blur between robot and animal tied fluidly to his environment, in constant tug of war with its roots and the destiny of a mechanised way of life.
