Art should always take you somewhere. It is too easy to classify "ART" as sculpture, or painting, music or dance. Art can be any expression of a Human Soul.
A nicely mowed lawn, or a carefully prepared meal are as artisticly valid as a great opera, or a stunning painting. It is the "intent" in the action of creation which defines art.
I was rigidly trained as a Classical Metalsmith, as well as a Geophysicist.
The work in metal is slow, and you must have respect for the materials, as well as a scientific background to understand how metal flows when it reaches the melting point, and what to look for in the changes of the earth. This training serves as a springboard into my painting. I enjoy working with media that allows for a surprise, or a mysterious interaction between the artist and the realm of spirit.
Artrwork moves and grows along with time. I am stunned at the power that art can have to affect modern society. I believe that we are all spirits having a human experience, and that is the reason Art exists, to allow our spirits the chance to be seen.

Gallery Comment
Susanna uses the free gesture and the calculated accident in her work. A
technique which requires control and the freedom to experiment for the
delight of what might happen. A process of squeezing emotion from the
simplest line, the most essential stroke, a dialogue with the painting where
the painting has as much to say as the painter. A lively discussion. |
