Louise Webber

painter / Canada

I began as most youngsters do, sketching with graphite on paper. I took two years of art classes in senior high school, where I was exposed to different kinds of artistic expression, styles, and mediums. Many years later, after education, career, and kids, I began to oil paint. I am mostly self-taught and most of my artwork is realistic.

I also enjoy completing the occasional painting in “ Alla Prima” and “In Plein Air“.  I have done paintings totally in palette knife and also encaustic with bees wax.  I like trying new styles.  I feel an artist should not be set in just one technique or style, they should be creative and free to express themselves in whichever style they feel right for that project. I have tried water colour and painted on board and wood.

Occasionally I will do a painting with large brushes and heavy paint, but most of my artwork is completed with tiny brushes. My oils are professional quality and I prefer primed stretched canvas and primed masonite. I can get lost for hours in my paintings, unaware of the hours flying by.

As my art career progresses, I have found myself drawn to portraiture. I love painting skin tones of persons of all races.

Gallery Comment :

Louise searches for the beautiful and brings it to her small scale oil paintings. She experiments with style and subject matter in this search and research for the simple pleasures of life. There is a continuing consideration of spirituality that she wants to convey in her work.
