John Stevenson has been painting since early childhood,inspired bythe Group of Seven and impressionist painters from turn of the century.

John furthered his studies with George Brown College in Toronto. After a successful career as a graphic designer/illustrator, painting pictures for magazines and various high-end publications in the Ottawa and Toronto markets, John is now a full-time artist.

Through the medium of acrylic and Oils on canvas using knives he primarily works''plein air'' (on location) celebrating the breathtaking landscapes of Canada, capturing the colours found at different times of the day and year..

He enjoys the challenge of portrait and figure work and has done many commissions both private and corporate.

His work appears Manoticks Art Association, in Ottawa at the Ottawa Art Association's Gallery within the Ottawa Little Theatre Lobby Gallery and has appeared in a number of juried show a few being The Mayor At Festival, The Ottawa Arts ;Festival, Elmwood Art Show to name a few.

John Stevenson paints on location in his native Canada with a sense of composition and attention to detail that comes from being there, immersed in Nature with the ability to observe and interpret these sensations on his canvas. Perspectives that pull the viewer in by using the entire canvas in a balanced composition of colors and forms.  The series shown here demonstrates a sensitivity and appreciation of the experience of the changing seasons.
