Simple Passion for drawing is what drives me to create the work I have done and will continue to do for as long as I possibly can. My inspirations are ‘People’ themselves, each with their own interesting and unique features for the artist to recreate and capture for eternity. I will never tire of capturing their ‘Persona’, be it a famous face or a beautiful, chubby cheeked toddler.
I started drawing as soon as I could hold a pencil, but realized at the age of eleven that I could capture a likeness of an individual using my parents Elvis Presley books as a reference. I am now thirty five and over the years I have been commissioned to create many portraits.
At the age of nineteen, I was married, and I now have two wonderful children. I have worked part-time for the past sixteen years and this, along with family life has delayed my participation in the world of Art.
In 2001, after not drawing for quite some time, I was asked to do a portrait by a lady, of a little boy for his parents wedding anniversary. These particular parents turned out to be quite famous. They were so pleased with their present, that they personally commissioned me to create a full family portrait. I was very honored and proud, as this was for Paul Scholes from Manchester United Football Team.
After this tremendous event in my life, I gave up my part-time job for a while whilst I concentrated on producing some of, I feel, my finest portraits for a local Exhibition. I felt very inspired and confident at this time and Art became the main part of my life again. My exhibition produced more commissioned work for me, of people, family members, these being mainly children.
In my portraits I use pencil to create the look of smooth skin, shadow and light. This is all done with pencil alone and no rubbing instruments of any kind.
