Jacques Tange :: Neatherlands
painter

"Poetic Expressionism" . . . . . . . . . .

In bright colours I try to give an image of the way I see the world, life and the human menagery. Not to criticize the formely mentioned but to recompose them, transform them into my world. With humour, relativity but not blind for the negative things in the world.

I like to shape my work as a poem, musicaly composing with lines and colours, playing with perspective. Looking at the works you can discover a little influence by 14th and 15th century illumunated manuscripts and 20th century expressionism.

About the WORK:
In a melange of patterns in sultry reds, candy greens, and vivid blues, Jacques Tange creates delightful vignettes of a more playful life than the ordinary, with imagined cityscapes and sunny neighborhoods, romantic evenings and languid summers. Punctuated by the charming and recurring appearance of feline figures, Tange's art exudes a certain cheer, carefree sensuality and charismatically lackadaisical spirit. Coy and aloof, the cats assume a fullness of personality that equals that of their human companions. Tange's human figures display a simplicity of features, while their postures and body language truly reveal the character of each.

In a candid and lighthearted style of representation, Tange paints curling clouds, cerulean-colored cats and medallion-like suns, creating a vivid world like that of a boundless stage set or landscape of imagination. Vibrant and fanciful, his paintings possess an aesthetic rhythm and balance of composition that is carried through each work.

Tange has participated in numerous exhibitions throughout Europe, and has recently been selected as "the most promising artist of the year," in the Artist of the Year Elections in the Netherlands.

Gallery Comment:

Tange makes reference to his work and his approach as that of a poet. This visual poetic sense comes through in creating delightful, idealistic worlds of light-hearted romantic positivism that are infectious, while staying clear of sentimentality. The simple pleasures of life are exalted and almost honored, as the characters in his paintings are non-chalantly absorbed in their dream world; the women with eyes closed, always emmersed in a vividly colored environment, peacefully delighted to be where they are with no desire to be anywhere else. Tange's ability to compose these worlds in a playful juggling of colors and his expression of three dimensionality with limited gestures enhances these sensations.
