Karikese is out in the street at night and brings back images of the city and its secrets and some protagonists, elusive figures with something to hide and nothing to lose. The scenographic backdrops are meticulously rendered and further dramatized by the significant use of black which enhances their impact and power. "Florence" in the winning image poses with her back to a spectacular city view and pulls you in. Another image, features "Rafaele " with something on his mind and a glowing city behind him that appears to have molten lava flowing in its streets. An elegant consistency of images. (dg)

Something is always happening in the works of Karikese, but you're never sure what it is. Some drama is either taking place or is about to happen. His work is not only about the portraits, but also about the situations the subjects find themselves in. His cinemagraphic photographs could be well-selected stills from some outrageous film that in fact, make you want to see it to know more about what happens next. Poetic scenography with seamless structure. Large format, highly curated and well priced. (dg)
