Don Parnall

photography / USA

"An image that once danced through my head finds its’ self set free and available for others to enjoy."

Don Parnall Born 4th July 1958 Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom.

Educated in UK. Relocated to USA 1980

Being from a theatrical and photographic family it only stands to reason that I should follow in the family tradition, with stops on the way involving Radio broadcasting, Television production and presentation.

Currently I own and operate Costellophoto Las Vegas USA, a company of Photographers specializing in Journalistic, corporate, and fine Art Digital photography in Las Vegas Nevada, and recently opened ‘Studio Costellophoto’.

Born in the United Kingdom in the late 1950’s to a Father in the British film industry, a Mother with a passion for the Stage, and two older sisters Don’s childhood was spent with great emphasis on art and photography.

The Parnall family may be the only family that has had every member work for the BBC and at one point or another Don’s Father as a Lighting Cameraman in the 1950’s and 1960’s until his untimely death in 1969, Mother, Joan worked in the wardrobe dept till she met her soon to be husband and had three bouncing children.

Don’s first real job at the age of 16 was at the National film School Beaconsfield in the Post production dept, many short term jobs included Projectionist at Hammersmith Odeon London and Stage assistant for many bands cumulating in a trip to the United Sates in 1980. Later that year Don decided to relocate to the US for good and there started a journey that took him from coast to coast, meeting many interesting people on the way.

Don’s professional life took a slight detour during the early eighties, many jobs as a radio announcer at many radio stations, as is the nature of that business, and producing a ground breaking TV show called ‘Wired 4 Play’, a music video and celebrity interview show rather like MTV today, wonder were they got that idea from?

After Radio, there is life and Don moved to Las Vegas NV, were he gained a great reputation as a News Videographer for a local ABC affiliate, he was soon offered work as a freelance cameraman and was hired by HBO, Showtime, and BBC to mention but a few, to shoot live world wide broadcast of international Boxing, the last of which was the infamous Hollyfield – Tyson ear biting riot.

Wishing to spend more time with his two daughters Don founded Costellophoto Las Vegas in 2001 where he can be found today.

Don is very proud to have been awarded entry to the ARTROM Gallery GUILD and hopes that other Guild Members will enjoy his photography and vision as much as he enjoys viewing and learning from fellow guild members.

Gallery Comment:

Don Parnall elegantly depicts his subjects in prepared, choreographed poses that emphasize texture and surface. The images he submitted for his Guild portfolio transcend the classic and traditional staged style he chooses and become extra ordinary moments, preserved and documented as an actual occurrence with no effects other than skill, imagination and experience - Important moments he has chosen to share.
"Blue Back" ia quiet and sumptuous play of light.
"Passion" can be seen as cut in two by the bow string, the lower part subtley abstract and the upper part seething emotion.
"Feet" oozes the subject out from an indistinct mass of color by an effective handling of reflections.
"Wrapped Around a Corner" centers and fixes your eye on that bold, white back, the rest is half void and half texture. A stunning study of a strangely ordinary pose.
