Christel Sobke
computer painting / Germany

Artistically, I focus on the relationship between colour and form. The influences that colours take on form and inversely.

I am quite skilled in drawing techniques, especially portraits. I received private training by an artist at the age of 7 years.

Colours are to me like instruments in an orchestra playing together in harmony or disharmony. The power of colours is shown at best in series with repetition of form but altered coloration.

When I got my first computer in 1995 I worked a lot of images with the computer. Again, often serially, and either based on photography or as a direct drawing into computer similar to finger painting. Series of animal portraits and flowers followed, of course in colour variations.

With the series “Life in the City” I began to work more untied from reality and was inquisitive to find out what new possibilities the computer technique could offer to an artist.

Another series which I love very much is a hand-drawn bunch of flowers that I scribbled directly with my fingers into the laptop. This simple draft of flowers is again over the years altered and elaborated and will never come to an end,

A computer for me is a just a tool like a brush or pencil or a camera. As an artist, most important for me is the idea, the mental work - the kind of tool that I use to create a work of art is quite secondary to me.

Gallery Comment :

The common ground shared in the works of German artist Christel Sobke is her keen eye for color and form. The experimentations, alterations and variations on a theme produce gorgeous prints vibrating with color. Carefully curated and reasonably priced. (dg)
