Born in Oporto in 1946, I began to photograph very young and since then, photography was my favourite hobby.
I took a course in photography at the age of 25, but most of my knowledge is from books and amateur and professional photographers, friends of mine.
Photography is now my full job for the last 10 years.
I have a lemma that says:
“Photography is light, is passion, and is emotion fixed on time”.
The most interesting subject to photograph for me is people, because in people we can find real emotions. I also like to photograph architecture. I live in Porto, a city with a world heritage patrimony, and I love to photograph my town.
I can say that I am very realistic, but I also like to move on to other things, to explore the image and subjects. To photograph is for me a state of soul and my photography often reflects this.
I can say that I feel I am a very intuitive photographer, because at times I decide to do a photo in a certain way and then change everything in a second, and I like to do this a lot of times.
My environment is my stage and my studio, and so I have the tendency to photograph all that surrounds me.
Everything is life, and life happens every second, so, to photograph “that” second is my objective.
