For me to become an artist was pretty easy. Colours, brushes, canvases followed me around since early childhood, as I come from Latvian artist family of several generations.

Participating in exhibitions since sweet sixteen, I won several awards, the most important being the opportunity to spend some time in Vienna City, Austria where I discovered F. Hundertwasser’s art which really inspired me. Other inspiring names in art for me are Henri Matisse, Claude Monet, Gustav Klimt, and Pablo Picasso.

For the last six years I have been living in Leeds City, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom. The beautiful scenery of Yorkshire widens my creativity. Here there is some kind mix of different forms of nature, it’s like Italy, France, Spain and Latvia all in one.

In my paintings, I devote much attention to the play of colours, line and plot. I convey my vision of the world with colours and images, but the plot plays a special role. The paintings were created mainly during my travels. I try to perceive the world not only in my native Latvia, but also in other countries. Each painting has its own story. Some tell about scenic mountains of Tuscany, the magic cathedrals of Italy. Perhaps, there are stories about Britain’s magical gardens or a cat that brings warmth and peace to home. A woman waiting for the love of her lifetime…

I wish to spread beauty in the world and to bring happiness to people through my paintings. I wish everyone looking at my paintings to feel the love I can give. Who knows, any person can share this love with others…

2010 - We have had the delight of watching the evolution of Katrina Avotina’s work during her AGG Membership of the last few years. She has found and clearly developed her own “unique style” which has come to a expressive maturity which stands strongly and powerfully in its ability to speak, to share, to give. She is motivated exactly by this. She wants to touch us, delight us, with her bright colors, simple lines and harmonious compositions. She paints the simplicity and the beauty of that which surrounds her and tells myterious little stories within each painting. Brava!

2009 - Through the brushstrokes of Katrina Avotina the world seems to transform in "naif" scenes of innocence mixed with a certain type of primitive, beautifully simplistic vision. Moments of daily life that are expressed using intense colors of deep saturation, the hills become pink and blue, the trees full of fruit and colored flowers, the strolling women in their full vari-colored dresses ... the positive vision of Katrina Avotina emerges also in her choices of titles for her works in which she presents a world of "Endless Beauty", "So Exciting", "Fabulous" .....
