Asbjorn Lonvig describes the 12 works presented in this portfolio:
9 Trouts - "Inspired by fish farming in my country. The company Dantrout won the regional initiative price in 2009 and I was asked to make a motif for the celebration. Fish, water, lakes, rivers, oceans have always been some of my favorite themes. I found out that my grandfather Kristian Jensen was one of the founders of Dantrout so no doubt, I was inspired. I even wrote a Fairy Tale about it. See the story."
Golden Pavilion - "Temple of the Golden Pavilion, Kyoto, Japan is a temple made of gold. I saw a lot of temples in Kyoto in Japan. Kyoto is the city in Japan with far most temples. The temples were amazing. But. Just one was made of gold. I had to make a motif. I took some photos in order to remember the shape of the Golden Pavilion. I do not know why, but I was not ready to make the motif until 18 years after I saw it in Japan. I’m sure the starting point 18 years after was a renewed interest in Zen and Buddhism."
South Rose - :"Inspired by South Rose Window Notre Dame de Paris. What I was really enthusiastic about in Notre-Dame de Paris was one of the 3 large rosettes - a mosaic made out of stained glass. The sun was shining the morning I visited Notre-Dame de Paris and the light was bursting through the colorfully stained glass. Amazing. The Swiss psychologist C. G. Jung would probably have called these rosettes mandalas - and sure they are."
Centre Pompidou - "The most astonishing about The Centre national d'art et de culture Georges Pompidou is the backside architecture. Tubes painted in bright colors. It has only been point of departure for my work... my motif has not at all any resemblance with the Centre's look... To the right is the original art work. But I want to transform the square art work to the general format. Then I made a Left and a Right version."
Palazzo Pubblico - "The Palazzo Pubblico (town hall) is a palace in the city of Siena, located in the Tuscany region of Italy. Construction began in 1297 and its original purpose was to house the republican government, consisting of the Podesta and Council of Nine. Palazzo Pubblico and Torre del Mangia. The outside of the structure is an example of Italian medieval architecture with Gothic influences. The lower story is stone; the upper crenelatted stories are made of brick. The facade of the palace is curved slightly inwards (concave) to reflect the outwards curve (convex) of the Piazza del Campo, Siena's central square of which the Palace is the focal point."
The Louvre Pyramid - "Inspired by The Louvre Pyramid. Only a few architects masters combining old and new. The Pyramid is a masterpiece. The Pyramid was inaugurated in 1989 - two hundred years before Le Louvre in 1793. Architecturally the pyramid has its own life, as has Le Louvre. The two talks to each other with love and respect, containing each others uniqueness."
Portofino Inspiration -
"Portofino is a famous little town at the Italian West Coast - South of Genoa. Originally it was inhabited by fishermen. Today it is a fashionable town. Tourists, Gucci stores, billion class yachts, fancy restaurants. As I looked closer at the old colorful houses I was terror-stricken. All the architectural details around windows etc. was not real - they were PAINTED. But now I have taught myself to look at the houses as a piece of scenery."
The Palace of Versailles Blue - "I remember that the Palace of Versailles was huge. I remember it was extremely extravagant. The Palace of Versailles, or in French: le Château de Versailles, which has been on UNESCO’s World Heritage List for 30 years, is one of the most beautiful achievements of 18th-century French art."
Wilderness National Park - "You will really enjoy the spectacular Wilderness National Park between Cape Town and Port Elisabeth. The Wilderness National Park is situated in the heart of the Garden Route, South Africa. It is a fascinating combination of rivers, lakes, estuaries and beaches, unfolding against the backdrop or lush forests and imposing mountain."
Sydney Opera House - "The architecture of this house is known worldwide, but did you know the architect is one of my Danish fellow citizens. Jorn Utzon is his name. However Utzon resigned from this job after 9 years of building. Since then, Utzon has never returned to Australia to see his famous building finished."
Think Wind Power - "I have worked for Siemens Wind Power Headquarters in Brande, Denmark. This motif I believe is my best suggestion. We'll see."
Chinese FISH Sign - "Colorful Simplicity Calligraphy is done on the basis of Chinese signs. The technicque is to add shapes and colors to the Chinese sign. In this case the Chinese sign for FISH."
