Rome, Italy 2010

Every serious organization, activity or business, at one time or another, needs to write their "mission statement". I have struggled with this at various times over the last few years, never finding a description that adequately represented our approach to the work we do. Luckily for me, the other evening, while I was reading, I came across a sentence that struck, rang, and vibrated as true.

"working with an attitude toward the past, of gratitude,
towards the present of serving and towards the future, of responsibility."

The more I considered this, the more I realized that it clearly and simply described our mission, not just the mission of ARTROM Gallery but of the soon to be ARTROM Network.

Grateful towards the past for giving us; the opportunity to meet and work with so many extraordinary artists, to be part of the continually expanding international arts and culture community, and to have learned to use and appreciate the importance of internet technology as a powerful visibility tool for artists.

We are also grateful for the continuing success of "The Mandala, an International Symposium". The high quality exhibition and surrounding lectures, meetings and workshops created an intriguing event which has kept people talking and merited a personal letter from Umberto Croppi, Assessore alle Politiche Culturali e Comunicazione del Comune di Roma in which he stated his "sincere appreciation for an event so well-conceived and especially interesting".

The present finds us again reflecting on the best ways to serve the needs of the international arts and culture community while continuing to insert ourselves in the local reality of Rome's growing focus on contemporary art. Very shortly we will become ARTROM Network and integrate our present organizational framework with new and expanded services.

This year we also continue our dedication to focusing on women artists. The month of March has been organized to create various and diverse opportunities; The TOPTEN Women in the Arts, Edition °2 International Competition, The AGG Artist of the year Award, a directory on the Women in the Arts Blog, a call for submissions from women who would like to participate in a large collective exhibition in Rome during the following year, Women in the Arts Monthly meetings at the Artist Presentation Space and who knows what else we may come up with for the rest of the year.

The future implies responsibility towards the artists with whom we have established a relationship of collaboration, towards the general public in creating and offering interesting cutural events which are aimed at turning the spectator into a participant and a sustained effort at keeping a high level of quality in all we do.

Keep creating and stay in touch,
