In the collage works of MM Dupay there exists an engagement in an intimate relationship with characters that embody the other.

"I somehow feel at home with these hybrids who are uncomfortable with objectification and who assert their subjectivity by engaging with the power of display. Each character’s setting suggests the stability of the iconic, the portrait, or the masterwork.

Collage deals in fragmentation. At the same time Dupay unifies the work by carrying an element of the collaged narrative into the frame itself so the entire piece will be met as a crafted object engaged in a dialogue with objectification.

By juxtaposing the historical and the contemporary, the beautiful and the awkward, these monsters create dialogues that remind us that we are all hybrids. We are all the other.
