Every painting has a different story.
“My art is a story. A story to invite you and seduce you. Like when you were young and your mother would read you fairy tales. You kept your interest in the tales but you let the fairies go because you thought there were none left for you. My art gives you back the fairies.”
Marjan's art gives you back the fairies with a tale. “My paintings are like my body, like my skin. First you feel the urge to touch it and when you do, you are shocked by the sensation. Feelings you never dared to long for, to feel the regrets, the hate and anger you never dared to look at. To feel all these layers of emotion in one image, at the same time.” Not just black and white, but colours. Colours of our imagination, our fantasies, our longings, our dreams, our fears, our hate and our love.
MATERIALS / MEDIUM:
"I paint on canvas but add mixed-media materials like silk and other textiles, fine papers, found objects, like strange fake diamonds, overpainted photos, parts of children's toys, sewed textile details, and sea stuff. In addition to acrylic paint, I use chalk, oil chalk and inks. This creates a texture and depth into the painting which add interest to the stories I have to tell.
