Artist Statement ::
My photography enables me to give expression to feelings I previously was not aware existed and with that, has opened a whole new dimension of understanding and commitment in my life.
The play of natural light plays a critical role in many of the subjects I shoot. I look for unusual and unique subjects and when possible ones with reflections. When photographing a reflection I try to look to see behind the reflection, which at this stage of my life helps me to reflect on who I am, where I have been and what I have seen in life.
All of my photographs are printed by me personally thus permitting me to put into the print what I observed along with the feeling I had at the time the shot was taken. I make my prints with “state of the art” equipment, always using the finest carbon inks and paper available thus assuring the print is of archival quality.
I recently published a book entitled A Backstretch Journey for which I spent two years documenting the life of the “Backstretch” at Philadelphia Park Racetrack. I would arrive at the track at 5:00 AM, the time life begins at a racetrack and took several thousand photographs, many of which are in the book. The photographs and quotes in the book demonstrate a life never before revealed to the public. The book and reviews of it are available at Amazon.com.
