Artist Comment :: At the age of ten I noticed that even the call of the playground was less insistent than the need to finish a picture. I studied painting at the Central School of Art and did a 2 year postgrad at the Slade.I then earned my living by doing graphics, animation, illustration and textile design. This was to support my painting habit so that I could let it unfold without pressure.
A series of life events sent me into a nosedive and during recovery I found my painting territory and lines of exploration.
Pauline Jones is a painter engaged in a "visionary, symbolist art of the imagination". She has never stopped painting, but is only now starting to show her work.

Gallery Comment :: The mystery of this captivating painting is enhanced by its pure "painterliness". A large-scale painting of depth and power that leaves the source of this power open to suggestion. Pauline Jones brings new faith to the art of pure painting and what it's all about. She has an innate sense of contrast and light. This artwork is well-conceived and planned, from the pitch-black foreground, to the ominous smoky-grey sky, to the fascinating, surging, twisting, flaming rope-like eruption. A fully realized work. There's a lot going on here. D.G.
