ARTROM Gallery SECOND Place Award Winner, Mike Bell

Gallery comment :: Seascapes and skyscapes have fascinated and continue to fascinate artists with an appreciation and awe for nature in all its magnificence. Not all are successful in recalling this challenge without being banal. Bell's textured painting of restrained tenuous colors claims attention and brings the viewer in with subtle references, dramatic lighting and shadow effects, creating a solemn mood of mystery.

Artist Statement:: Having lived in Northumberland for 25 years, has developed an interest in structure, texture and composition. Mike's recent work has taken its inspiration from the patterns and colours of the abundance of oil seed rape and poppies near his home, along with the Otterburn Ranges and Kielder Water. Mike works in mixed media including acrylic, oils, collage and wood. My work is intended to promote feelings and perceptions rather than literal observations.
