Gallery comment :: The monotone earth colors of the stone ruins in the foreground and the woman dancer accentuate the sensation of age and the passage of time, while a distant lone observer surveys the limitless seascape against an animated sky. These three points of reference offer a "full" painting of proportion,
perspective and balance that was appreciated by the jury and merited First Place.

Artist Statement :: I am aged thirty and have been painting and drawing since age 5. In the past I was not very prolific. Because of my immigration from my native Philippines, wandering around the world through my Navy enlistment, and my recent move from California to Arizona, my art never reflects any love for homeland nor reflects any sense of belonging. I express my random interests: ancient architecture, Asian spirituality, domestic landscapes, and glimpses of surviving California wilderness. I particularly admire Classical paintings, especially those leaning towards the Romantic.
Since I’ve enrolled in the University of Arizona as a major in architecture, time for painting became more precious. Recently, I have renewed my interest in painting and hope to apply my artistic sense to modern architecture and the over commercialized American city, which are in desperate need of art. |
